Will you just look at those big beautiful brown eyes? Meet 'Pete,' the Rupert, Idaho black and tan who was hit by a car and taken to Rupert Animal Hospital by his humans in January, but was never picked back up, and his humans aren't returning calls from the clinic. Now he's set to be auctioned off, although no one has ever showed up at similar auctions by this clinic in the past. Excerpt from Magic Valley:
The clinic wants to find the dog a good home, but can’t sell him or give him away because it isn’t the legal owner. By setting up an auction and notifying Pete’s owners of the upcoming sale, the veterinary clinic is in the clear.
“When they have had the sale of the dog, if the owners don’t come forward and pay for the costs of caring with the dog, it’s typically been my experience that the animal clinic will bid at the sale and they will then be the owners of the dog,” attorney Alan Goodman said. From there, the business can legally adopt him out to a good home.
Pete will be auctioned off at 11 a.m. March 2 at Rupert Animal Clinic, 200 S. 200 W. in Rupert. Clinic employees aren’t sure how old he is but say he is a friendly, playful pup who doesn’t bite. He’s not neutered, but his treatment for injuries is finished and he recovered well.
We've got a feeling that this handsome guy is gonna be just fine. Read more at Magic Valley.

OMG, I hope for Pete's sake that a rescue group attends the action and saves him. I have heard that adopting out unaltered dogs can mean a life of misery for them, ie. being picked up by puppy-millers, back yard breeders, hoarders, etc. Good luck little guy I will ask St. Francis to watch over you.
Awww he is gorgeous and looks a lot like my Max. I would sure take him if I could (but then I'd have a herd of doxies) ;-)
Oh what a beautiful boy! If I was in the US I'd give him a home.
What an adorable little man! I wish I lived in Idaho so I could give him a home.
lol @ anon - "for pete's sake"
aww, poor sweet guy. hope he finds a good home where they won't bail on him at the first hiccup.
a puppy miller would have to be pretty ballsy to attend a vet's auction for a stud. dash was bought FROM a mill at an auction by a rescue. that turned out happily ever after. hopefully it does for pete too.
What on earth is wrong with people? Who walks away from their dog?
He's a handsome little devil- his new owners will be very lucky!
