The Universe Revolves Around Dachshunds

Enjoy this little roundup of humans and their dachshund companions in the news on a seasonably cool Wednesday, March 4th, 2009. Spring can't be too far away. Woof! Above, this red smooth hones his acting skills in a recent rendition of Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona at Millersville University in Millersville, Pennsylvania. Source.

Joliene Frost of Somersworth, New Hampshire, works to rehabilitate dogs that otherwise might be euthanized. Smooth black and tan 'Riley,' shown here, is learning to use his hind legs again. Read all about her rehab services and see more of Riley at Foster's Daily Democrat.

Dan Hug, right, and his wife, Phyllis Hug, carry two of their family's four dachshunds to safety as firefighters work at the scene of their house fire in Coralville, Indiana on Tuesday. Possibly only three of the four dogs were rescued in time. Our hearts go out to them, as their home was a total loss. Read about it at The Press-Citizen.

A noise from a hearing aid caused this dachshund-mix named 'Sammie' to attack his 86-year-old human, leaving her in severe condition. The freak attack was caused when the Orange County, Florida, woman bent over to put a leash on Sammie, and her hearing aid fell out of her ear, making a loud shrieking noise. Normally a sweet dog, Sammie is at Animal Services being monitored for rabies for ten days. Read the heartbreaking story and see a video at WFTV 9.

And finally....Smile! Don't be sad! Elizabeth Gessling holds red longhair 'QT,' as they wait to get their picture taken at the 159th All Breed Dog Show at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Saturday in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Enjoy your Wednesday.
