Dachshund News Roundup!

Proving once again that New Year's Resolutions are made to be broken, here's a dachshund news roundup on a cool but sunny winter day, January 5, 2009. Woof! Above, meet red smooth 'Molly,' who hails from Lincoln, Illinois. Poor Molly has been the center of a court battle after she was attacked by a neighbor dog and incurred almost $5,000 in vet bills. Her humans, Mark and Mindy Leith, sued the other dogs human for the vet bill, but a judge only awarded the couple $200, the "value of a 7-year-old dachshund." Huh? Both sides appealed the ruling, the other dogs human stating that there is no proof that it was his dog. On appeal, the Leiths were awarded the full amount asked, as the court determined the Leiths “demonstrated how much Molly is worth to them by paying $4,784 for the dog’s veterinary care.” This may well end up in the Illinois Supreme court. Read all the tatty details at The State Journal Register. We're just glad that Molly is OK.

Meet pretty 8-month-old wire-hair 'Daisy,' her vet, Dr. Ryan, and humans Anthony Quinterno and Rachelle Chan of Nevada City, California. It was a New Year's Miracle for Daisy to be found, as her humans crashed the car on icy roads on December 22nd, and Daisy jumped out the car window. She was missing for 8 days in severe snowstorms before finally being picked up by a call to Animal Control. She seems to be recovering well. Read the heartwarming story at The Sierra Sun.

Look at those ears! Chris Wardall of Walnut Creek, California, speeds down Eskimo Hill on Saturday with his 1-year-old, long-haired dachshund, 'Chewy.' Source.

Hugs! Julissa Garcia, 3, of New Deal, Texas, hugs her 10-year-old adopted black and tan, 'Simon,' while her family fills out the paperwork at the Haven Animal Care Shelter on Saturday. Julissa and her family adopted a lab mix, Tammy, along with Simon. Don't older dogs make the best pets? Source.

And finally, a gift for the griller, this dachshund hot dog roaster can be yours for just $12.50 at Roast My Weenie. Fight the battle against burnt, blackened weenies!

Have a great Monday!
