Shout Out From Adele
Adele is set to release her second studio album, 21, on 24 January 2011 in the UK and 22 February in the U.S. 'Rolling In The Deep,' seen here, is the first single. Bark on. We are a bit mesmerized by her voice.
Adele was the first recipient of the BRIT Awards Critics' Choice and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2008. She is a multi-Grammy Awards nominee who has won two awards, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. Source.

Clancy
It's hard to write of the passing of Dachshunds here, and even harder when you know them personally. So, with tears streaming down our face, we report the passing of our dear friend, incredibly handsome red smooth 'Clancy,' who left this planet on Wednesday, October 20th, 2010. He had just had his 11th birthday, and his passing was quite unexpected. Words can't express our sorrow, and words can't express the love and admiration we have for him, and his humans - true friends and Dachshundists to the core.
Clancy was a "special needs" dog - a breeder boy who had gone blind - and his humans found it in their hearts to adopt him and give him the best life he could possibly have. And while his blindness may have hampered him in some situations, his lovable Dachshund personality would always shine through and quickly bring a smile to your face.
Clancy and his humans have been big supporters of this site for many years now - a cursory look details submission after submission from our pal Clancy. And if you don't know his humans, you know his Dad's work - he writes most of the fine monthly columns at Dachshund Delights - which most recently included a beautiful poem about your 'Long and Short of it All' host 'Joey.' And you've no doubt read his Dad's work in other places around the net and you didn't even know it - surely you've read Poe's First Draft of 'The Raven'?
We took the above photo of Clancy at a local Dachshund meetup here in Chicago. His dad would always carry him in the blue checked knapsack because that is where Clancy felt comfortable. We will sure miss you, little guy. You were so loved.

Our Special Dachshunds: Meet Oscar!
Clara from Portugal writes: This is Oscar. He's 9 months old and a bundle of energy and cuteness. I've always wanted to have a dachshund and when my husband and I decided to get a dog, we were going back and forth with the terriers and the beagles and the dachshunds. Until, of course, we saw Oscar. Now neither of us wants another breed and we're thinking of getting another one. We live in an apartment but we have a huge back yard and built a fenced space for him to run. Oscar sleeps in the house at night and during the day is outside, napping in the sun, racing, growling at the trees; he rarely makes any kind of noise, except from 7pm to 8pm. If we don't feed him there's hell to pay. When we go on walks he's the envy of the neighbourhood. Young or old, everybody finds Oscar the cutest and he works that like a superstar… laying on the floor on his back, licking people's fingers, and making those sad puppy dog eyes…
Maggie says that Oscar is a hottie! She'd love to romp in the laundry with him. Thanks for sharing his story Clara.

"Hot Dogs - Chicago Style" Bark in the Park
Huh? Your hosts, Joey and Maggie, joined a team of wiener dogs and friends: Hot Dogs - Chicago Style, to raise money from their family, friends, and co-workers to support Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society in a 5K walk along Chicago's lakefront on Saturday. The team of dachshunds and friends raised over $18,000 for the organization, which was founded in 1899, is completely donor supported, and helps over 25,000 animals a year. There were over 3,000 dogs participating at the 14th annual Bark in the Park event. Woof! See more pics at Chicago Dachshund Lovers.Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Giant Dachshund?
After a long day waiting for our dad to come home from work yesterday, we went outside to go for a walk and to do our duty. It was a beautiful day in the Windy City; the daffodils have just started blooming, and there were lots of spring smells to be investigated. Who should come strolling down the sidewalk but this big guy, and we had to do a double-take. Was he one of us? Was he a dachshund? Now, we're pretty big doxies ourselves, weighing in at about 20 pounds each. But this guy was HUGE.Meet giant red smooth 'Leonardo!' Weighing in at 65 pounds, he's a big happy 2.5 year-old boy. He loves to eat the meals that his human cooks for him; his favorite is fried chicken. (We wanna go live at his house!)
We questioned his pedigree a bit, but he told us that he was 100% dachshund, and that his human paid $1,000 for him. We weren't about to doubt the big guy.

Dachshund News Roundup!
Smiles! Meet little red smooth 'Buddy,' and his human Mitchell Olson, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Oshkosh Northwestern had a look at popular dog names in Oshkosh and around the United States, noting the trend to give human names to our canine friends. Here's an excerpt: “It was a difficult decision to pick his name,” Olson said of her miniature dachshund that is about 1 year old. “My husband wanted to name him something rough and tough because he’s so tiny.”The Olsons, like many dog owners, say they went through a bunch of names the first few weeks before they finally found one that stuck. And, Buddy it was. A name, Olson said, that is not hard for the little guy to live up to.
“My son, his nickname was always Buddy and he said he wanted to name the puppy Buddy because he didn’t want to be called Buddy anymore. That’s how (the dog) got his name,” Olson said. “The name has to fit their personality, and his does.”
Read more about common dog names in Oshkosh and around the nation at the Oshkosh Northwestern.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes - and their owners - turned out for the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon fundraiser at Hills Park in Las Vegas, Nevada. Above, Royce Feour takes a break after helping his friend Michael Kanaley walk his dachshunds, 'Rocky,' front, and 'Chipper.' Chipper made the walk in the little red wagon. See more doggie pics at the Review-Journal.

The Weather Dachshund
Meet handsome black and tan smooth 'Sampson' from Chicago, Illinois. Sampson lives with his littermate black and tan smooth brother 'Tommy,' and English Cream longhair sister 'Gina Marie.' He's the big brother that manages his crew. Sampson was on the local Chicago NBC news last night in their weather photos feature. Way to go Sammy!
We know Sammy personally, he's best buddies with Joey. Now, Joey will play with Maggie and a few other doxies sometimes at local dachshund meetups, but he really likes to play with Sampson. It's so fun to see the big standard boys go at it, they're both usually pretty laid-back fellas. They'll get really wild, even get up on their hind legs and wrestle with their front paws, then after about an hour, they settle down and lick each other's ears.
We were able to photograph Sam the man on TV:
