Crazy Maisie The Goldfish Dog

Another fine addition to our 'Dachshund Relaxation' series, meet Crazy Maisie. Her human notes: Our dog Maisie is a dachshund with fish dreams. She REALLY wants to swim with the fishies in our goldfish pond but just can't quite get it right - though she tries every single day - usually several times a day! You have to admit she's pretty darned cute though! At one point in the video you can see our other dachshund, Matilda, running by the pond chasing lizards. We have crowned her the Lizard Queen. She is totally uninterested in the pond, but the lizards sure keep her busy!

Dachshunds Wrestling - Manny versus Franky

We love to watch doxies rastle! From youtuber AceEditor: Little Manny Man and Fenway Frank are brothers who have only been together for a week. This is a wrestling/boxing match with the two black and tan dachshunds. The music is the theme from Rocky. They love to play and they never hurt each other. The little one can body slam the big one and hold him in a head lock. No matter how much Manny wins or muscles out Franky, little Franky always comes back for more. They are so much fun.

A Note From Joey and Maggie: Dachshunds Bark in the Park!

Your Long and Short of it All hosts, Joey and Maggie, joined a team of Dachshunds: Hot Dogs - Chicago Style, to raise money from their family, friends, and co-workers to support Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society in a 5K walk along Chicago's lakefront on Saturday. We're awful proud to report that the team of wiener dogs and friends raised over $12,500 for the great organization, which was founded in 1899, is completely donor supported, and helps over 50,000 animals and humans each year.
Hot Dogs - Chicago Style won the team challenge for the 3rd year in a row - a threepeat - bringing their total donations to over $40,000 in the last 3 years.
It was a beautiful day, and there were over 3,000 dogs in attendance. That's a lot of butts to sniff. Enjoy the photos! Here's a direct link to them at flickr. We're still exhausted from the big day.

Be Prepared

I, 'Mini,' promise to do my best
To do my duty to God and my country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack.

Fun With Dachshunds

Hotdogger John Woodbridge holds a hot dog cutout for a boy and his dachshund at the Buda Wiener Dog Races last weekend. The Oscar Meyer Wienermobile made an appearance during the festival. See more fun photos from the event at the San Marcos Daily Record.

Run, Wiener Dog, Run!

We never thought we'd see an article about wiener races and dachshunds at The Economist, but then again, we're popular little puppies. It's a nice little recap about some of the different races across the country, the film Wiener Takes All, and 'Roscoe,' a quick little piebald. Check it out.

Woof!

'Buddy,' a four-year-old red smooth belonging to Patty Reisz of Mt Washington, Kentucky, barks a greeting to all at the fourth annual Doggie Derby in Union, Kentucky, Saturday. The Doggie Derby was sponsored by the Women's Crisis Center, with proceeds going to their Pet Protection Program. Photo source.

Firefighters Dig Dachshund Out Of Badger Hole

Oh, the embarrassment and utter humiliation - to be rescued from being stuck in a badger hole by firefighters. Well, that's exactly what happened to a dachshund in Bovey Tracey, UK. See where our tenacity gets us? The dachshund has chosen to remain anonymous, but here is his story from This Is South Devon:

A DACHSHUND was rescued by spade-wielding firefighters after being stuck for a day down a badger hole outside Bovey Tracey.
The trapped hound disappeared down the hole in a bank at Higher Elsford Farm early on Monday.
And a few hours after sunset he emerged bleary-eyed, but unhurt from his underground prison.
Firefighters from Moretonhampstead grafted away with their shovels to remove the distressed animal.
Fire spokesman Tony Hayward said: "They worked very hard. The only way to get the poor dog out was to dig him out.
"He went down early in the day and could not turn around in the tight space to get out again."
He said the dog was visible to his rescuers throughout the ordeal.
"A good pair of long arms eventually scooped him out," said Mr Hayward.
The dog, found to be in good shape despite his prolonged subterranean stay, was reunited with his owners.
The alarm was raised just after 10pm.

Badger Madness Devastates Garden

Evil Badgers have turned the lawn of a Buckinghamshire, UK, country house into a lumpy mess. We're thinking they need some badger dogs.
