Those Special Dachshunds: Holiday Edition!

It's the most wonderful time of the year - time to go Walking in a Wiener Wonderland!  Thanks so much to all the good folks who have sent in wonderful seasonal photos of their beloved Dachshunds.  Kicking things off, above, it's pretty little 'Lexie,' from Dieppe, NB, Canada.  She writes:

Dear Joey and Rowdy,
I love your blog and would like to wish you Happy Holidays!!!

Next, our good friend 'Geveva' Dachshes through the snow to tell us:

Dear Joey and Rowdy
Geneva here, sending Christmas greetings! We'll be having a green Christmas this year here in Rhode Island, but a few weeks ago, I was able to take full advantage of an early snowfall in MA.
As you can see, I am a true Snow Dog. I especially enjoy sticking my nose down into it and snuffling along. Things always smell better under the snow.
Best wishes to all my fellow dachshunds for a healthy and happy 2012!
Geneva

PS Does this photo make my ears look big?

Then, the mom of these three wise Dachshunds wanted to comment on Olga's troubles with dressing up for the holidays:

Dear Joey and Rowdy,
My three Dachshunds Foozeball, Peaches and Spaatz also have to endure getting dressed for Holiday Photos. Although Peachy likes getting dressed and dances around when the outfits come out the boys just put up with it as long as the treats are part of the deal.
Happy Holidays to all Dachshunds and their lucky owners.

And would you believe, Lily and Turbo's mom quipped in our direction:

Dear Joey and Rowdy,
I was going to make a fabulous Christmas Card this year.....but the dogs got things all tangled up!!

And finally, this just in from Sacramento, California:  While visions of sugarplums danced in her head, Macy's mom Robin was heard to have said:

Dear Joey and Rowdy,
Attached is my x-mas baby Macy who is six years old. Don’t let the picture fool you she is just full of doxie antics and fun.
Wishing you and your fur babies Joey and Rowdy a very Merry Christmas and Holiday season.
A special thought and prayer for Miss Maggie on her B-day tomorrow. We sure miss her.
Wishing you a happy healthy 2012 with lots of doxie love and snuggles.

Thanks for remembering Maggie's Birthday!   Happy Holidays to All!

(Wheaten) Wirehair Wednesday: Meet Ringo!

Thanks so much to Nancy Nesser for sending in a link about her handsome wheaten wirehaired boy 'Ringo.'  Ringo was featured in a story at NewsOK a few weeks ago about an adoption event which was taking place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The event, Central Oklahoma Humane Society's Midnight Woofness Adoption Marathon was hoping to adopt out over 500 dogs and cats in less than two days and set a new national record.  Ringo was adopted at the event last year.  Turns out this years event adopted out 565 animal companions!  Wow. Way to go!   Excerpt from NewsOK:

Nancy Nesser lined up shortly before midnight to adopt her new dog, Ringo. He was there — waiting in the middle of the night in a parking lot with a couple hundred other homeless dogs.
“I knew I wanted another dachshund, just because I'm crazy about them,” said Nesser, who lives in Oklahoma City. “I have always heard that the wirehair dachshunds are the clowns of the breed.”
Nesser adopted Ringo during the Central Oklahoma Humane Society's Midnight Woofness adoption marathon last June, and Nesser said the dog has been a perfect fit with her and her two other dogs.

Ringo's family includes two smooth Dachshunds.  We're so glad that Ringo found such a great home.

Those Special Dachshunds: Meet Winston!

Winston on the Lake Ontario shore (click any photo to enlarge and admire)

It's Wednesday, the most mysterious day of the week.  That's because we feature those mysterious Dachshunds with the wire coat who hardly ever seem to be in the news.  Yep, it's Wirehair Wednesday!   Thanks so much to Jill Lunney and Teague Patchett for sending in photos of their incredibly handsome wirehair 'Winston!'  Without any further ado:

Happy Spring to Joey and Maggie!

Our handsome furry 'son', Winston, came to us about a year and a half ago. A victim of neglect in his earlier years, Winston was rescued by a dachshund lover who owned a cattle farm outside of London, Ontario.  He turned out to be not the best farm dog, chasing the cows and nipping at their heels, so she sadly had to re-home him. Lucky for us though, we found her ad on the internet, and fell in love with Winston.

He is such a great little dog, full of personality and lovable doxie stubbornness! He has found is forever and ever home, and we couldn't be a happier little family.

Here are some pictures of our little wizard-face man!

Enjoy the sunshine!
