The View From Above

Look closely, dear dachshund readers. We love it! This satellite photo is either a sign of the impending dachshund revolution, or a 50-foot-long homage to the well-loved black and tan smooth 'Clams,' who we featured last January: CEOs Relax With Their Dachshunds. Clams is making waves again, as he was chosen as Mr. August 7th, 2008 at Dog of the Day. Way to go Clams!

Read all about the handsome 9-year-old boy in a great little article, including a few fun facts (like we didn't already know he was gorgeous!) and see another great pic at Dog of the Day.

CEOs Relax With Their Dachshunds

Photo: Michael Sugrue for CNN Money

Meet handsome smooth black and tan 'Clams,' and his human, Mike Workman, who runs Pillar Data Systems out of San Jose, California. CNN Money had a look at executives who unwind from business pressures with exotic hobbies. Here's an excerpt: When he's not running Pillar Data Systems, Workman designs custom fireworks at his hobby factory outside Oatman, Ariz.
And we're not talking sparklers.
In 2003, at Ellison's request, Workman orchestrated a massive show in San Francisco Bay that consumed 6,000 shells in 28 minutes, at a cost of $250,000.
"The permits alone were $40,000," he says.
Though most of his shows are for personal enjoyment - out in the desert with a cigar, a glass of wine, and his dachshund, Clams - Workman competes in annual pyrotechnic conventions across the West. His pièce de résistance this year? An aerial shell that will rise to 2,000 feet and shower colors across a quarter mile.

The Dachshund Chick Magnet Effect

A study by the German dating agency Amio has revealed the top Chick Magnet dogs, or the best dogs for bachelors to use to encourage flirting.  This is one list we're proud to be on!  A spokesman for the agency said: "Many women can't resist stroking a sweet four-legged friend with wide eyes and soft fur. And it's the perfect talking point."  Here's the breakdown of the top flirting scores:

75% - Golden Retriever
59% - Sheepdog
56% - Yorkie
53% - Dachshund
51% - Poodle
43% - Pug

On the lower end:

14% - Doberman
12% - Rottweiler

We know that when we go for a walk we can hardly make it to the first corner without a chick stopping to pet us, or a gal in a moving car actually pulling over and getting out to meet us.  Has your human ever met a significant other or gone on a date because of you?  Do tell!  Read more about the Chick Magnet results at the German Herald.

2006 CHICK MAGNET™ Cabernet Sauvignon is available at Weener's Leap Winery.  That's 'Clams' on the label, a handsome Dachshund we have lovingly featured a few times before.
