Finding Dachshund Love

For your dose of Friday Dachshund Cute, we offer up lucky red smooth 'Gus,' and his brand new human, 3-year-old Sean Lewis, who hail near Kitsap, Washington.  Gus was one of 34 small dogs transported to Washington from an over-crowded Porterville, California shelter with a high euthanization rate.  Excerpt from the Kitsap Sun:

Three-year-old Sean Lewis found a new best friend Monday when he met Gus.
The dachshund didn’t have to do much to win over the boy and his mom, Amber Brand. As soon as they took the dog to a pen at the Kitsap Humane Society to play, they knew he would be joining their family.
Sean may think he chose Gus to be the family’s newest pet, but based on the sloppy dog kisses it looked more like Gus chose him.
When Brand heard the humane society was receiving a handful of small dogs over the weekend, including possibly a dachshund, she wanted to be there Monday morning to see the selection. Not knowing what she’d find, she only shared her plans with Sean on their way to the shelter — she didn’t want to disappoint her older children if things didn’t work out.
Luckily they arrived before someone else could claim Gus.

Read more about Gus, see more photos, and find out more about the transport at the Kitsap Sun.  Welcome home Gus!

  1. Aahhh, that is so touching when we see a dachshund adopting his family. Coodles to the family for opting to adopt and save a life. Hope they have many years of play and love together!! Cheers from Canada
