Valentinstag im Dackel Club

Please forgive us. We try to be topical around these parts, and when we saw this video posted to youtube last November, we were going to save it for Valentine's Day. Of course, Valentine's Day came and went and we forgot to post it. So, here in all its glory is Valentinstag im Dackel Club. This video clip was taken from a German sitcom called Hausmeister Krause, which centers on Dachshund Lover Dieter Krause (actor Tom Gerhardt). His only hobby is his militaristic Dackel Club.  Words can't express our unbridled desire to join this elite group.  Great stuff!

Dachshunds abound in more videos at youtube.  If only we had kept up with our study of the German language.

  2. Vielen Dank (many thank) fuer das! While I don't understand all of it (my mother was German) I did get most of it. They were talking about singing romantic songs at one point -although the one guy was singing a song about not loving someone (which the President of the club strongly objected to). The heart-shaped sausage at the end was pretty funny.

  5. The song they ended up singing is a classic from World War I which was sung by German troops and was highlighted in a film starring Kirk Douglas.

Es war einmahl, ein treuer Husahl,
Der liebt ein Mädchen ein ganzes Jahr . . .

Once there was a loyal hussar (soldier),
Who loved a maiden (or Dackel) an entire year . . .

Like PEG, I SO want to belon to that club!!
