Dachshund Rescued After Spending Six Days Trapped In Badger Hole

There sure are certain risks involved with being a Badger Dog - like getting stuck eight feet underground in a badger sett for six long days.  Meet beautiful wire-haired 'Lucy,' who hails from Burley, a village in New Forest, Hampshire, England.  Lucy was walking with her humans, John and Janet West, when she went missing, but thankfully her dachsie-mom 'Kitty' alerted them to her whereabouts by sitting at the badger hole with a puzzled look on her face.  Excerpt from the Sun:

Over the next five days the couple, from Burley, Hants, tried to coax the dog out by leaving her favourite food of hot tripe at the entrance of the hole.
The fire service set up specialist listening equipment and a "snake eye camera" was sent underground to examine the network of tunnels but could find no sign of Lucy.
The stricken sausage dog was eventually unearthed using a mechanical digger in a delicate three hour operation using a variety of types of high-tech equipment.

We're glad you're safe and sound Lucy.  Read the whole troubling story at the Sun, and also read more and see another pic at the Daily Echo.

  1. This post really had an impact on me. Last night I dreamt that Jeeves and I encountered a badger and we were running away from it! Can't remember how it turned out, I'm sure Jeeves was very brave : )
