Still More on Acupuncture in Dachshunds

It's comforting to know that acupuncture is an alternative that helps many dachshunds suffering with back issues, or IVDD (Inter-Vertebral Disc Disease). Meet elderly black piebald 'Bea,' a rescue gal who hails from the Stillwater, Oklahoma region. Bea suddenly developed back pain, and surgery did not correct all of her issues. Excerpt from The Daily O'Collegian: Bea’s owners, Brian and Linda Henning, began looking into alternative treatments when surgery to correct back pain in November failed to restore complete use of her bowel movements.
“She doesn’t seem to be in any pain anymore, so her quality of life is really good,” Linda Henning said. “But if we could do something that inspires that nerve to make her bowel movements work, then it would be better quality of life for all of us.”
The Hennings began researching acupuncture to improve not only Bea’s bowel control, but also the use of her back legs, which occasionally drag because her back is not strong enough to support them.

  1. I have had doxies for years and use to work for a Vet that did acupuncture. When one of my doxies became paralyzed from a disc putting pressure on her spinal cord we started treatments. Within 6 weeks she was walking normally and bowel and bladder control had returned.

  2. One of my doxies started walking with his head tucked one day at about 8 years old. I immediately kenneled him and took him to my vet. We had him on meds and kenneled except to come out and go potty, for almost 6 weeks. I talked with my vet about doing the acupuncture. We started his first treatment and the following day he was walking normal. We completed the treatment segment of one month. He will be 11 years old on Christmas Eve and we have not had any more incidents since that time. I highly recommend acupuncture. It saved my little guy I am sure.
