Dachshund News Roundup!

Smiles! Meet little red smooth 'Buddy,' and his human Mitchell Olson, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Oshkosh Northwestern had a look at popular dog names in Oshkosh and around the United States, noting the trend to give human names to our canine friends. Here's an excerpt: “It was a difficult decision to pick his name,” Olson said of her miniature dachshund that is about 1 year old. “My husband wanted to name him something rough and tough because he’s so tiny.”
The Olsons, like many dog owners, say they went through a bunch of names the first few weeks before they finally found one that stuck. And, Buddy it was. A name, Olson said, that is not hard for the little guy to live up to.
“My son, his nickname was always Buddy and he said he wanted to name the puppy Buddy because he didn’t want to be called Buddy anymore. That’s how (the dog) got his name,” Olson said. “The name has to fit their personality, and his does.”

Dogs of all shapes and sizes - and their owners - turned out for the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon fundraiser at Hills Park in Las Vegas, Nevada. Above, Royce Feour takes a break after helping his friend Michael Kanaley walk his dachshunds, 'Rocky,' front, and 'Chipper.' Chipper made the walk in the little red wagon.
