Look at that face
Good gosh. We hate ending our week at The Long and Short of it All with such a sad story, but alas - we don't write the Dachshund news, we just report it. Meet beautiful little 9-week-old 'Lola,' who hails from Mobile, Alabama. She was thrown from a balcony of a third-floor apartment on Tuesday, and is seen here just yesterday - still in very serious condition at South Alabama Spay & Neuter Center. Excerpt from al.com:
The small dog appeared weak, only standing for several seconds, but responding to kisses and other shows of affection.
“She’s not out of the woods yet. She definitely a miracle,” said Dr. Jeni Knizley who is treating Lola. “She has had the most wonderful attitude. Even when we were trying to hook up a catheter, she would look up at us and wag her tail. That kind of love and devotion, (it) is heartbreaking when you see it. She had a strong will to be here and is a really sweet, sweet precious baby.” Kendria Dexter, the puppy’s owner, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals. She was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail about 6:14 p.m. Wednesday and was released about 8 p.m. with bail set at $1,000, records show.
“I did not have good expectations for the dog,” Knizley said. “I would probably have given her a 10 to 15 percent chance of making it.”
The puppy “was in very, very critical condition when she arrived,” Knizley said, adding that Lola had trouble breathing, couldn’t stand, and “was in a coma-type state.” The impact caused internal injuries including liver damage, she said.
“She is eating, but not keeping much down,” she said.
“I can’t say she’s out of the woods yet, but I can say she miraculously not a single broken bone, probably due to her age.” Knizley said.

We're sending warm Dachshund wishes Lola's way for a full and quick recovery.
Some people should not be allowed to own pets! I hope this gorgeous pup goes to a new good home.
ReplyDeleteThis breaks my heart. I hope beautiful, sweet Lola gets a new home that truly loves her.
ReplyDeleteThus is just heartbreaking. More reasons why pet stores should be shut down and stronger laws and penalties against people who are cruel to animals should be enforced. Likely she will get a fine and walk away. Pretty lame for attempted murder on an innocent life.
ReplyDeletei totally agree!!!!!
DeleteA bad week for "females" and doxies.
ReplyDelete1,000 bail. $100 for hurting animals.
ReplyDeleteugh.
Here I read this after losing my baby after 18 too short years. This baby could have a home with me and be loved forever. People are so sick. What could she have done. A little piddle on the floor? This person in my book should go to jail for a long time and never ever be allowed to have an animal again. Sometimes I think a tattoo on people's foreheads is a good idea.
ReplyDeletePlease be well sweet Lola.

Every time I read something like this, I'm just speechless, dumbfounded and enraged. How on earth someone can do these sorts of things, I just cannot fathom.
ReplyDeleteWhoever it was, should never be allowed to own an animal EVER again, and have their paychecks docked FOR LIFE with the money being donated to an animal charity.
...and be sentenced to shovel (with a very short shovel!!) MOUNTAINS of dog poop in the hottest of hot days in Alabama for all eternity.
What kind of person could do that to an animal? Sickening. I hope she is prosecuted to the MAX.
ReplyDeleteOur prayers and good wishes go out to dear Lola.
ReplyDeleteOur dear Rudi was dumped in the AZ desert and fended for himself for weeks before being found. When we adopted him he was all kinds of sick and malnourished. But his heart was and is beautiful.
As for Dexter...well there are several things I could say, but instead I will pray for a change in her heart.
Rot in Hell may your life have as much pain as that poor dog
ReplyDeleteHer life just to be specific. I envy the person aboves Christian charity.
ReplyDeleteI am posting this on Monday afternoon, April 2nd. Does anyone have an update on her condition? It melts my heart to see that face. Hope she finally gets a good home.
ReplyDeleteShe is doing better per posting on the clinic's facebook page. Updates on Lola will now be on the facebook page of "Save a Stray"

people who hurt animals should die. like it's disgusting how you could ever hurt an animal, how much of a pathetic excuse for a human being must you be to hurt a completely helpless animal??? it's disgusting.
