Jimi's Sundown: Our Dachshund's Last Day
There is nothing in the world like the Love of a Dachshund, and there is nothing so devastating as the loss of that love.
Via youtuber AdoredAustin: Jimi Hendrix Adams was the best dog in the entire world. Once dubbed the hummingbird of dogs, we had a very full and very loving but very short five years with him. Jimi became suddenly afflicted with a GI disorder and IVDD that turned out to be inoperable. He loss the use of his legs, was in a lot of pain and was suffering complete incontinence. After much prayer and veterinary consult, we made the heart wrenching decision to let him go. Before we had him put to sleep we took him all around Austin, Texas to say goodbye to all his favorite spots. We chose to hire a mobile vet who specializes in at-home pet euthanasia. We laid him on our bed that he shared with us as the Texas sunshine streamed through the windows. The five of us huddled close (us, our child, and our other dog June). We fed him a donut and two Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, kissed him goodbye, and told him we loved him. We wrapped his much loved tennis ball and his frail little body in his favorite towel, and buried him in his favorite spot in our backyard with a scoop of peanut butter as tears rolled off our faces.
Our hearts are so very heavy. See more photos of Jimi at adored austin.
Make sure you have the tissues handy when you watch this. Tears are rolling down my face. What a touching tribute to a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteRIP Jimi.
I will have to watch this later because I have to go to work...but I send lots and lots of love to Jimi's family. Bless them for making his last day so wonderful. Plan to meet up at the Bridge.
ReplyDeleteRIP sweet Jimi. The sadness in your mom and dad's eyes tells how much you were loved and will be missed. Mom and dad, so sorry for your loss, you are a wonderful family and any dog would be blessed having you there for them. 4 crying dachies from Quebec, Canada
ReplyDeleteHow heartbreaking for his family! Way too young. Goodbye sweet angel dog.
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry for your loss! Just reading it had me in tears and I hadnt watched it yet. May he run with joy and happiness over the rainbow bridge and watch over you always.

God love you for doing all that for his last day. How hard that had to be. I have had to say goodbye to too many friends and your goodbye was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I hope some day you will find a friend to help heal that empty spot in your hearts.
ReplyDeleteI am crying with my beautiful Baron asleep at my side...sweet Jimi waiting for his family at the Rainbow Bridge! Hugs for his family and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Joey and Maggie, thanks for posting this. The video was beautiful. Always tough to watch but a wonderful expression of love. Jimi was not alone but with his family and home, not in a strange place, as he departed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your goodbye with us, caused heavy hearts, and tears, and then lots of cuddles...

Jimi reminds me so much of my dachshund Rusty we lost two years ago. He was only eight years old, too young to go like Jimi. Rusty got a mcrib sandwitch on his last day. My thoughts and prayers are with Jimi's family.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry on the loss of your sweet Jimi. I am lighting a candle for him. Know that he is running free and in no pain now. A few of my babies were there to meet him with open arms at Rainbow Bridge.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your goodbye with us, my thoughts and prayers are with you
I can't bear to watch the video, but just from reading the post, I can tell that Jimi had a wonderful, wonderful life with his loving family. What a very sad and wrenching decision to have to make, but one filled with love and compassion for their little guy.
ReplyDeleteThis post really socked me in the gut, lots of tears!

Aw, that's very sad. The video's very sad. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Jimi. My Roscoe is at the Rainbow Bridge too. I know how the loss feels. I was out of town for his last day though since his illness was unexpected. I am so glad that Jimi's last day was everything he could have asked for. Rest in peace little Jimi.
ReplyDeleteOMG - what a precious tribute to sweet Jimi. All our furry angels should be fortunate enough to have a last day with their family, full of love and their favorite things. The mobile vet is a great way to have the end peaceful, in the home they love - sadly, we've also used the services.
ReplyDeleteYou are wonderful doxie parents and though I'm crying my eyes out, it is comforting to know Jimi had the best for his too short life.
He knew how much he was loved - what a blessing as you deal with his loss.

What a heartwrenching but beautiful and thoughtful thing to watch. I was bawling before the video even started. What good dog-parents you guys are- maybe Jimi wasn't so lucky in the health department, but he certainly had enough luck in the life department to make up for it.
ReplyDeleteKnowing what it is like to say goodbye to a furry family member like that, my heart just aches for you and your loss.
RIP Little Jimi, you were loved. Thank you so much for sharing the touching video. I couldn't stop crying for a half hour - and I think that's the closest to crying that I've EVER seen my husband. I will snuggle my pups extra hard tonight.
ReplyDeletewhat wonderful caring owners to make his last day so special.
ReplyDeleteSo sad, but what a wonderful passing with those who loved him. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this! What wonderful parents you were to Jimi!
