We don't often profile abandoned Dachshunds in need of a home - there are just so many who are in the loving care of our dedicated rescue groups - but boy does 10-year-old 'Schultz' ever tug at our heartstrings. He was recently dropped off at the Agoura Animal Shelter near Los Angeles, California. His owner thought he was just too old. And before leaving, he patted Schultz on the head and said: “Good luck, buddy." Source.

Oh my dog!! Thisis so sad, I have tears in my eyes. I wish I could have been there to give the owner a good kick in the ass. I can understand older pups ending up in shelters if their aged owners can no longer care for them due to illness/death and no family to take them, but this is just plain low blow and the Agora Animal shelter spokesperson said it all "some people should not own pets". Good luck little guy, you are so cute you will touch someones heart. Please keep us tuned in if possible. We are crossing our paws for ya Shultz.

Good LUCK, buddy??? That's the thanks Schultz gets for 10 years of unconditional love and companionship? He deserves better, and I know he'll find a wonderful home.
ReplyDeleteWith any luck, his former "owner" will get dumped in a nursing home some day, patted on the head and told, "Good luck, buddy." when he's old. Karma. It's a bitch.
ReplyDeleteOh man - how can anyone do that??? He is such a cutie - and 10 years old - that's nothing. My "baby" Rhett just turned 11. I would take him in a heartbeat - just we're in the wrong part of the US (NJ). So the personal visit won't work. Hope he gets adopted soon - and that former owner gets some real bad karma.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad, after having one of my furry friends just go over the rainbow bridge from old age, we kept him at home right to the end, we were lucky, he had no pain, but, to just get rid of him? NO way, we got a puppy to take his place, and to let him retire in peace, there is no way we would have just deserted him, best of luck to you, if we were closer, we may consider it.

OMG - what a despicable being that he could just dump this furry angel "Schultz". We recently adopted four mini longhaired dachshunds, one of whom is a 13 yr old and we love him to pieces. He has brought so much joy and happiness to our home of four rescues, we can't imagine never having him, OR that someone else dumped him on a 4-lane highway. DOGS ARE NOT DISPOSABLE and their hearts can be broken by being abandoned by the person they thought was their "friend/owner/caretaker". That horrible person should be reported to someone of authority or an adv taken out so no one sells or gives him any other pets, not even a goldfish.
ReplyDeleteHow cruel - how unconscionable!!!
PLEASE keep us updated on Schultz - our hearts here in the northeast cry for him.
So sad. Wish I lived close enough to adopt him.
ReplyDeleteSweet little guy.
Seniors are the best. Joey, Maggie, and dad, thanks for sharing this. I've cross-posted and I wish I were in Southern Cal to go get him! He'd be a youngster here with 17 1/2 y.o. Zeppelin. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, li'l Schultz.
ReplyDeleteWe're happy to report that Schultz was adopted. Thanks to our LA pal 'Pee Wee' for the great news!
