Mark Your Calendars: Florida Wiener Dog Derby: The Tradition Begins

If you live in Southwest Florida, (oh, that glorious warmth!), you're not going to want to miss the inaugural Florida Wiener Dog Derby which will take place rain or shine on March 28, 2010 in Fort Myers, Florida.  Registration is just $10/pup, and all proceeds will benefit Pets are Working Saints Ministry ( P.A.W.S.) and the Lee County Animal Refuge Center (A.R.C.) for the care and support of animals in need.  Thanks to Jennifer Dabnor for the tip, who writes:

My little boy Dylan and I are excited about the upcoming Florida Dachshund Derby in Fort Myers, Fl. We have been living here for little over a year and immediately noticed the lack of "weineritis" in the area. Sure, we would see other dachshunds at yappy hours or out at our local eating establishments, but it wasn't the same as seeing a flock of them running around and barking at anything that moved. Clearly this was missing for a few other gentlemen who moved from Texas and were use to the Buda races...so they decided to establish the first annual florida wiener dog derby.
