Queen of Denmark's Dachshund Hit by Car

Despite the unmentionable canine controversy surrounding her husband, Prince Henrik, who is also honorary president of the Danish Dachshund Club, hopefully the Queen's beautiful dachshund 'Helike' (pictured above) will have a speedy recovery. Excerpt from The Copenhagen Post:
Helike, Queen Margrethe's two-year-old dachshund, was hit by a vehicle at the royal residence of Fredensborg in northeastern Zealand.
Details as to how the dog was hit or by whom were not released to the press. Helike was taken to Copenhagen's Animal Hospital, where its condition was reported as serious but stable.
The dachshund was given to the Queen as a birthday present by her husband, Prince Henrik, and is named after one of Zeus' three nannies.
If anyone has any more information on the Royal Dachshunds of Denmark (wait - aren't all doxies royalty?), send it in! Get well soon Helike! Helike Image Source

  1. Oh, not again! This family has the absolute worst luck with their gorgeous doxies. Since I started visiting Denmark regularly 15 years ago or so, I've been devastated by one news story after another -- royal doxies hit by cars, put down due to heartworm (apparently they don't medicate them prophylactically over there, no matter how affluent they are), running out the door and disappearing even after the national guard calls out the helicopters. And yes, there's that little news item a few years back about Prince Henrik eating dog meat ... Ahem. I'd say 'don't get me started' but you did! Christa and the pack
