MidWest Dachshund Rescue in the News

Our friends at MidWest Dachshund Rescue have been featured in several local newspapers recently in nice articles highlighting the wonderful work that they do. Last year, the fine reps, along with help from a vast network of supporters and foster homes, coordinated rescue, transport, vet care, fostering, home checks and forever home adoption for 129 dachshunds and dachshund-mixes. Woof! Excerpt from the Post-Tribune: "One of the biggest misconceptions is that all dogs in rescue are abused, which is not the case at all," said Lori Biesboer, MWDR Illinois/Indiana representative. "There are many reasons. Most common is that they are owner-surrendered because the owner does not have time to take care of their dog due to work hours; some are moving and cannot take the dog, or it can be due to a death or illness of the owner."

  1. I want to praise the MWDR for their work, and all the love they give unconditionally. I have an 15 yr. old girl that I adopted coming on 2 years ago, with a life threatening heart condition. She is still alive and ornry and happy thanks to our vet. We just took in our first foster girl, and wouldn't you figure, we are going to adopt her. We just can't let her go, and she has bonded with our old girl. Fostering was supposed to be the purpose, and no one warned us that adoption was likely..we joke about that one.
If I could I would take them all.
I will never again pay a breeder the money we did when we got our first one, now that I know about MWDR. These dogs come with a past, and are awakend by having new homes and have more love to give than any other dog you could buy, and seem to appreciate it more.
Time, patience and love are all that is required, and the rewards are heartwarming.
Thank you for all you do, and for giving me 2 girls that have stolen my heart, and given me more joy that I ever thought possible.
