Kisses! Proving once again that dachshunds are taking over the world, here's the latest dachshund news from all over the globe. Woof! Above, Kiley Cragun receives kisses her dachshund, 'Beanz' before they compete in the Best Dressed Dog contest at the Sixth Annual Yappy Days at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kansas. Moving to the other side of the globe, posters like the one above could be seen all over Delhi, India, in search of their top cop's dachshund. A 10,000 rupee reward was offered (about $250 - a lot of money in India) for the return of Police commissioner Yudhbir Singh Dadwal's favourite pet dog, 'Toto.' She was found on Saturday, 4 days after she went missing. There will be minor security changes at the commissioner's house after this incident, said a source. Read all about it at The Times of India. Finally, there's more dachshund interspecies nursing in the news! Let's go back to Kansas and meet 7-year-old red smooth 'Princess,' of Iola, Kansas, and her kitty. Excerpt from the Iola Register: When a LaHarpe girl brought in an orphaned litter of kittens — they’re only a few days old — one of the young felines was not getting enough nourishment from a bottle. The kitten also declined the teat from another female cat who had recently given birth at the Lynes’ rural Moran farm.
Fearing the young cat’s uncertain fate, Lynes — who has raised and sold dogs for more than 20 years — introduced the kitten to Princess, who had given birth to a litter of pups about two months ago. "The last of her pups was sold Wednesday, and she was still ready to nurse," Lynes noted.
Princess quickly bonded with the young kitten, licking the fragile animal clean and allowing the kitten to nurse.

We live to read such heart-warming dachshund stories like this. Meet 3.5-year-old smooth double dapple blind and deaf 'Toey,' and her human Bobby Hollabaugh, a plumber from Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Hollabaugh used to think that dogs belonged in the backyard until he met Toey, who sleeps in the bed between the sheets with him and his wife! Excerpt from amarillo.com: "I can't really explain it," Mr. Hollabaugh said, "but I was totally smitten the first time I saw her."

Lesley Kenwood, 41, a flight attendant who lives in Boynton Beach, came with her 1-year-old mini Dachshund named Scout, who was dressed in a yellow chemise and matching homemade hat adorned with bumblebees and flowers.
Kenwood said it took her about two weeks to make the hat. "I wanted her to have little bumblebees to look like spring," Kenwood said. "I do this more for the fun of it, and I enjoy getting together with everybody."

Shirley Jane Temple (born April 23, 1928) is an Academy Award-winning actress most famous for being an iconic American child actor of the 1930s, who enjoyed a notable career as a diplomat as an adult. After rising to fame at the age of six with her breakthrough performance in the film Bright Eyes in 1934, she starred in a series of highly successful movies which won her widespread public adulation and saw her become the top grossing star at the American box-office during the height of the Depression. She went on to star in films as a young adult in the 1940s. In later life, she became a United States ambassador and diplomat.

Meet Julie Skipworth of Wichita Falls, Texas, and about 8 of her 12, yes twelve, dachshunds.....all girls and one boy. Dachshund number 12 came about a month ago when Mrs. Skipworth celebrated her 50th birthday. Excerpt from the Times Record News: “I didn’t mean to get another,” she said as dogs jumped up and down at her feet. “The vet told me that 11 was enough. But then I was turning 50 and I wanted to treat myself.”

Otto and Contessa are the store greeters, but have to find new jobs now that the store is closing due to competition with the "big box" stores. We're betting that the big box stores don't have dachshund greeters! Meet adoptable dachshund friends 'Jasmine,' the red longhair, and 'Nikki,' the black and tan longhair, currently sheltered at Edmond Animal Shelter in Edmond, Oklahoma. Jasmine needs dental work, and Nikki has heartworm, both of which are conditions that the shelter is unable to provide treatment for. Enter a local organization called Paws for Life, which helps with the funds to cover the costs of special medical attention for animals at the shelter.

Woof! Did someone say dachshunds in fashion? Susanne Erichsen (Dec 30 1925 - Jan 13 2002) was a German beauty queen, model, and fashion entrepreneur. She was the first Miss Germany after World War II, and became a successful model after her pioneer work in pageantry. Winning the Miss Germany title of 1950 not only gave her a crown, but also a credit for 200 free cigarettes a month. She is considered one of the world's first supermodels.
Good luck to all the dachshunds competing at Crufts in Birmingham, UK this year! Crufts is the largest dog show in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records, some 23,000 dogs are expected. The hounds show on Sunday, and like Westminster, a dachshund has never won best in show. But we will always root for the underdog! This is the year!
